Arthur Rich, a Republican candidate for North Carolina’s 1st Distric Congressional seat, on Friday joined Belhaven Mayor Adam O’Neal in his march to Washington, D,C,.
The mayor’s walk is an effort to bring attention to an effort to save the Belhaven hospital.
“I just wanted to show my support for his efforts,” Rich said. “That community needs that hospital.”
O’Neal and Rich reached the outskirts of Washington by late Sunday. Numerous supporters of the effort were bused to Reagan International Airport and were expected to join O’Neal and Rich for the final leg of the march to Capitol Hill.
“It has been an honor to support the mayor in his endeavor and I would do it for anyone because it’s about taking care of our citizens and not just money,” Rich said late Sunday night. “I have walked from just north of Richmond to our nation’s capital because the people need a voice — voice I will provide them as the next congressman from the First District.”
Rich was expected to address the crowd of several hundred supporters and congressional elements at Monday’s rally.
