WHITE LAKE — The Bladen Community College annual fall fundraiser will again be held on the shores of White Lake at Camp Clearwater this year. Called Seafood & Sunset, the fundraiser will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m.
The fall event has traditionally been the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year and according to Foundation Director Linda Burney, this year’s event will be no exception. She said the event will again feature “all the seafood you can eat” and “plenty of fun for everyone.” Music will again be provided by local DJ Terry McPhail.
Another feature at this year’s event will be what Burney calls a “raffle auction.”
“It’s not really an auction … it’s more like a raffle,” Burney explained. “Attendees purchase tickets for chances on bundles of items that have been provided to the foundation. Tickets will be drawn for each of the bundles.
“This event (Seafood & Sunset) is very important to the foundation and to the college,” said Burney. “With the funds we generate, we are able to help a number of students stay in school, many of whom have no other way to remain in school. Many of them are not eligible for federal Pell Grant funds but do not have sufficient money to remain in school without some form of financial assistance.
“This is the primary reason the foundation exists,” she said. “We are here to help the students in any way we can to remain in school and reach their goals. Our students of today will be our community’s leaders of tomorrow, and education is the key that will allow them to open the door to their future.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of this important effort,” she said. “Even if you are unable to attend our event, your gift to the foundation would be greatly appreciated.”
Reservations for Seafood & Sunset are $50 each and may be obtained by calling Burney at 910-879-5519, emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org, or going to the Bladen Community College website and clicking on “Seafood & Sunset” on the home page. For anyone unable to attend, gifts to the foundation may be made in any of the ways named above.
