ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen Lakes Primary School recently sent a teacher team to the World View Symposium at UNC-Chapel Hill.


This is the school’s fourth year participating in the program.


The symposium offered a range of globally-themed seminars designed to increase the quality of global instruction in the classroom. Topics included the immigration experience in North Carolina, global current events, environmental education, and how to teach about world cultures.


The team worked with World View staff to update this year’s action plan.

The Bladen Lakes team includes the following faculty members: Reida Roberts, principal; Karen Ruffin-Johnson, School Improvement Team chair and second-grade chair; Joann Melvin, 21st Century After School Program director and kindergarten chair; Maria Segovia, English as a Second Language teacher and Spanish Club coach; Elizabeth Alford, chorus coach and music teacher; Emily Lennon, yearbook advisor and kindergarten teacher; Mary McLeod, art teacher; and William McMillan, physical education teacher.
