— Nov. 1, 1967: The Clarkton High Warriors defeat Orrum High by a 33-0 score to win the Cape Fear Conference football championship.
— Oct. 30, 1978: Thanks to a $7,688 purchase by the Bladen County Board of Commissioners, Elizabethtown fire trucks will now be equipped with new two-way radios.
— Oct. 30, 1987: Frederick Bryan Tate, a senior at Harrells Christian Academy and resident of Elizabethtown, is chosen as a Morehead Scholarship candidate.
— Oct. 31, 2003: June Koenig is chosen as the new director of the Bladen County Department of Social Services.
— Oct. 31, 2008: A federal lawsuit between Smithfield Foods and the United Food and Commercial Workers labor union is settled and paves the way for a vote by employees of the Tar Heel plant on whether or not to unionize.
