— Dec. 26, 1967: B.T. Bordeaux of Elizabethtown is bringing a 45-year career with the N.C. State Highway Commission to a close. He has recently served as maintenance supervisor in Bladen County.


— Dec. 28, 1978: Ronald M. Hester, a Bladenboro native, is named general manager of Westpoint Pepperell’s Alamac Knitting Division in Lumberton.


— Dec. 28, 1987: For the year, deputies with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office seized a total of 6,690 marijuana plants, ranking the county second in the state only to Wilke County, which confiscated 11,132 plants.


— Dec. 30, 2003: West Bladen High’s 2003 homecoming queen Mis’chel Hall, 18, is killed in a car accident at the intersection of Twisted Hickory and Silver Spoon roads in Columbus County.
