— Jan. 10, 1968: Jean Hussey of Bladenboro will represent her hometown in the North Carolina Junior Miss Beauty Pageant in Charlotte. Hussey, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hussey, holds the titles of Miss Bladenboro and Miss Tobacco Festival.
— Jan. 10, 1979: Outgoing Elizabethtown Rescue Squad Chief Fred Davis is honored for his years of service, and W.R. Holland takes over as chief of the Rescue Squad.
— Jan. 11, 1988: A winter storm dumps up to 6 inches of snow and ice across Bladen County, causing schools to close and numerous events to be postponed or canceled.
— Jan. 9, 2004: The town of Elizabethtown targets three properties — two on Quail Street and one on Swanzy Street — where dilapidated homes could be demolished as health hazards.
— Jan. 9, 2009: Donna Cagle is tabbed the Bladen County Medic of the Year by her peers at Bladen County EMS.
