Thank you, Preacher Mark Creech. Go! Go! Go! Preacher Cannon, you have many supporters.
My hope is for all citizens of this county to think very seriously about the sale of alcohol in our county. Consider just who really profits from this business. It will not be us citizens. Those who produce these products and those who sell the products will reap the profits.
The revenue received by the county cannot help our economy. It will cause more problems than advantages. Citizens will deal with more drunk drivers and the injuries and deaths caused by these drivers. There will be more domestic violence, as well as murders and other crimes.
Consider the influence this will have on our children and young adults. More money will be spent toward correcting these problems than the small amount received from the taxes.
Think of the extra burden this will put on the sheriff and police departments, as well as our rescue squad, hospital and court system. We have a great sheriff and police departments who put out great efforts to keep alcohol, drugs and crime out. It is not our middle-school children who need to be attacked.
The majority of young people who become involved with drugs start out first experimenting with alcohol and wine. It is irresponsible parents and other adults who prey on them that we need to deal with. We do not need to make this problem worse by making it easier for our young people to get these products.
Remember how the public has been deceived by the so-called “Education Lottery.” We were led to believe the revenue from this would be used solely for education, yet education receives very little of this money. Most goes to those who run the lottery and other items such as paying professional athletes to make TV ads for the lottery. Advertisements are not cheap and professional athletes are paid big bucks for their time. This money should be used instead for education only.
Let’s not be deceived again — we don’t need alcohol here any more than we need the so-called “Education Lottery.” This only makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
Christians, we have sat back too long without opening our mouths. We sit in our buildings (churches) and do much discussing rather than taking action. We allowed one individual to prayer and God to be taken out of our schools, as well as other evils to come in.
I challenge all Christians to stand up for your rights and what you believe. Will you be as bold as Preacher Cannon to open your mouths and cast your vote against this alcohol issue?
Preachers and all Christians should be involved in politics. It is our right as citizens. No one ever stood up boldly against politicians any more than Christ did. We are to walk in His footsteps, so I ask all Christians to be bold and stand with Preacher Cannon to defeat this referendum.
Lastly, I would like to say that the words in my Bible say no one should speak against “God’s anointed.”
Go, Preacher Cannon! I will stand beside you.
