DUBLIN — Senior Night on the volleyball court at West Bladen High produced a three-game sweep of visiting East Bladen, but the Lady Knights had to work hard to earn the wins.
West Bladen took the three games by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-22.
The opener was a back and forth affair until Taylor Stephens reeled off five straight service winners to vault the Lady Knights ahead 19-10. West Bladen went on to seal the game with a 6-5 finish.
In the second game, the Lady eagles found themselves in a 13-4 hole quickly, thanks to six service winners by Pait and assisted by three kills from Mallory Davis.
But Abbey Norris pounded a couple of kills for East Bladen and the Lady Eagles slowly crept back into the game.Another pair of kills by Norris and two service winners by Miller Heustess pulled East Bladen to within 17-14.
West Bladen’s lead widened to 20-14 and the two teams all but traded points the rest of the way to give West Bladen the win.
In the finale, the Lady Knights opened a 6-0 behind two aces and five straight service points by Stephens before a trio of kills by the Lady Eagles brought them within 6-4.
Neither team could open more than a three-point margin the rest of the way. East Bladen used a four-point service streak by Miller Heustess to take a 9-7 lead, but the Lady Knights fought back for a 13-10 edge before the Lady Eagles regained the lead 15-13 with a 4-0 run.
West Bladen went on a 7-3 spurt for a 20-18 lead, but the Lady Eagles battled back to take a 21-20 advantage.
The Lady Knights finished the game and match with a 5-1 run.
Davis led West Bladen with 13 kills, while Stephens contributed 14 service points behind two aces.
Norris led East Bladen with 14 kills, while Heustess had two aces and Lacey Suggs had two kills.
— In Elizabethtown on Monday, East Bladen and Heidi Trask battled to a 0-0 knot in Four County Conference action.
The two teams played through regulation and two overtime periods to register the scoreless tie..
— In Burgaw on Monday, the Pender County Patriots defended their home turf, handing visiting West Bladen a 9-0 whitewashing in Four County Conference action.
The Patroits all but put the match out of reach in the first half, firing six goals into the Knights net before intermission.
In the second half, Pender County chalked up a trio of goals — including one scored by West Bladen on itself — to end the match prematurely.
— In Rocky Point on Tuesday, Heidi Trask earned a 5-1 win over visiting West Bladen in Four County Conference action.
The Titans put together a 3-0 lead by halftime, then tacked on a pair of goals in the second half to seal the match.
Michael Pastore scored the Knights’ lone goal in the second half.
— In Dublin on Wednesday, the Clinton Dark Horses put eight goals on the board en route to a 9-0 shutout of West Bladen in Four County Conference action.
Clinton remained undefeated in the conference at 12-0.
— In Teachey on Wednesday, East Bladen couldn’t find the back of the net and fell to Wallace-Rose Hill 4-0 in a Four County Conference matchup.
The Bulldogs outshot the Eagles by a 15-8 margin en route to the win, scoring twice in each half.
