DUBLIN — West Bladen center Courtney Thompson established herself early and often on Friday, posting a huge double-double to lead the Lady Knights to a 45-22 Four County Conference win over Heidi Trask.
West Bladen, which hadn’t played since before Christmas, improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Lady Knights got six points from Thompson in the first quarter and held an 8-3 edge when the opening 8 minutes came to a close.
Thompson put nine pints through the basket in the second quarter to help West Bladen win the period 12-7 and open a 20-10 advantage going into halftime.
Nothing changed in the second half, unless it was Thompson and the Lady Knights getting better. Thompson drilled a three-pointer in the third quarter and the West Bladen defense held the Lady Titans to just two points, opening a commanding 35-12 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Thompson scored seven points before coach Pam Stephens emptied her bench. Heidi Trask managed to knot the Lady Knights 10-10 in the quarter, but never put a dent in the deficit.
Thompson scored 31 points to lead West Bladen and pulled down 23 rebounds, giving her 1,162 for her high-school career. That total puts her No. 14 on the state’s all-time career list.
Taylor Stephens was held to just two points for the Lady Knights, but handed out a team-high eight assists and added four steals
