DYB umpiring clinic scheduled
WHITEVILLE —The District 2 Umpire Clinic for the N.C. Dixie Youth Baseball Umpire Association will be held Thursday, March 13, at the Whiteville Recreation Center at 6:30 p.m.
The fee is $25 per person.
Certification is required to officiate an Dixie Youth Baseball district or state tournament, and could be required by the local league.
Umpire registration is also available online, requiring an online test and paying the registration fee. It can be found at www.eteamz.com/ncdixiebb/handouts.

Elizabethtown DYB signups set
ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball will hold signups at Leinwand Park on Thursdays and Sundays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. through March 8.
Signups are also being taken at Elizabethtown Baptist Christian Activity Center on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The fee for playing is $40 for one child, $60 for two and $75 for three players.
Tryouts will be on March 8 for players age 5 to 12. Majors will be at 9 a.m,; Minors will be at 11 a.m.; Modified Coach Pitch at 1 p.m.; and Coach Pitch at 3 p.m. — all at Leinwand Park in Elizabethtown.

Special Olympics to hold Spring Games
ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County Special Olympics will hold its annual Spring Games competition at Elizabethtown Middle School’s athletic fields on Friday, March 21, with the Torch Run opening the ceremonies at 10 a.m.
The public is invited and encouraged to some support the Special Olympics athletes as they compete.
The rain date for the event will be Friday, March 28, at 10 a.m.

8K Trail Run is set for April
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Rotary Club will sponsoring an 8K Trail Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, on Saturday, April 5, at Brown’s Creek Bike Trail, located at 2354 E. Broad St., Elizabethtown.
The pre-registration fee is $35. Register before March 25, and your T-Shirt size is guaranteed.

Triathlon schedule has been set
WHITE LAKE — Dates have been set for the 2014 triathlons at White Lake.
— The White Lake Half-Triathlon — a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run — will be held April 12 starting at 9 a.m.
— The White Lake Sprint Marathon — a 750-meter swim, 14-mile bike ride and 5K run — will be held April 13 starting at 9 a.m.
— The White Lake International Triathon — a 1,500-meter swim, 45K bike ride and 10K run — will be held Sept. 6 starting at 8 a.m.
— The White Lake Dash for Divas Triathlon — a 250-meter swim, 7-mile bike ride and 2-mile run — will be held Sept. 7 starting at 8 a.m.
CRAF apps are available
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen County Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the Community Recreation Assistance Fund.
The CRAF has been established to aid communities within Bladen County in setting up and conducting active sports programming in their communities for ages 17 and under.
To apply for CRAF, a set of eligibility requirements, participants’ responsibilities and a form application have been made available at the Parks and Recreation Department.
