DUBLIN — A tight game from start to finish was decided by a last-second floater gave visiting Wallace-Rose Hill a 42-41 win over the Lady Knights.

The loss dropped West Bladen to 12-7 overall and 6-6 in the Four County Conference.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Courtney Thompson in the first quarter — Thompson scored all of the Lady Knights’ six points, but Wallace-Rose Hill took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter.

West Bladen put together a 10-point period and the defense held the visitors to seven, giving the Lady Knights a 1q6-14 edge going into halftime.

Scoring increased for both teams in the second half, but the Lady Bulldogs got the better of it by winning the third quarter 15-12 and regaining the lead at 29-28 despite he first of three three-pointers by Taylor Stephens and seven points in the quarter by Thompson.

Stephens buried two more three-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep West Bladen close or barely in front. But with Wallace-Rose Hill trailing 41-40 with seconds left to play, the Lady Bulldogs got the shot they needed to steal the game.

Thompson put together yet another double-double with 21 points and 25 rebounds for the lady Knights. Now sitting in the No. 7 spot on the state’s all-time career rebounding list, Thompson is now just 25 rebounds behind East Bladen grad Courtney Melvin, who is No. 6 with 1,353 career rebounds. West Bladen plays at east Bladen on Friday.

Stephens contributed 13 points behind the trio of three-pointers for West Bladen, while Miriam Mendoza had seven rebounds and five assists. Breanna Jackson had eight rebounds.
