— Feb. 28, 1968: Wilbur C. Ward of Clarkton is named Bladen County’s top peanut-producing farmer on average yield. Ward averaged more than 3,600 pounds per acre, more than double the county average.
— Feb. 28, 1979: Rain and melting snow contributed to area flooding, and the Cape Fear River flows over its banks near Elizabethtown. The river’s depth at Lock and Dam No. 2 measured 43.8 feet, well above its normal level.
— Feb. 29, 1988: Ann Hancock is honored at East Bladen High by having her basketball jersey retired in recognition of her scoring more than 2,000 points in her career.
— Feb. 27, 2004: Several inches of snow blanket Bladen County, closing schools, government offices and local businesses. Numerous wrecks are reported, but with only minor injuries.
— Feb. 27, 2009: The West Bladen Knights open defense of the 2008 Class 2-A state basketball championship with a 64-43 win over South Lenoir, improving to 25-2 on the season.
