DUBLIN — West Bladen fought off a pesky Purnell Swett squad on Saturday for a 9-4 non-conference softball win.
The Lady Knights moved to 11-2 overall.
Purnell Swett touched West Bladen pitcher Nicole Wyatt for two first-inning runs, but the Wyatt settled down and gave up just single runs in the third and fourth — and topped the 100-strikeout mark for the season along the way. She fanned six in the game.
Meanwhile, the Lady Knights scored a run in the first, one in the second and two in the third.
West Bladen broke open a 4-4 game with a pair of runs in the fifth and then put the game away in the sixth with three runs.
“The girls are hitting the ball real well right now,” said West Bladen coach Pam Stephens of the Lady Knights’ 13-hit attack.
Five West Bladen hitters had at least two hits in the game, led by Laikyn Pait’s 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Nicole Wyatt was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Courtney Thompson was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Taylor Stephens was 2-for-4; and Morgan Sweeney was 2-for-4. Alanna Ludlum was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
