ELIZABETHTOWN — Alex Coates pitched a solid complete game and Colby Hester made a spectacular diving catch to save the game, as East Bladen nipped visiting Clinton, 6-5, in a Four County Conference baseball tilt on Friday.
“That catch was incredible,” said East Bladen coach Russell Priest. “Nobody could believe it.”
With the Eagles clinging to a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh, Clinton had a runner in scoring position with two outs when the batter crushed a deep line drive to right field. Hester gave chase and, at the last moment, dove toward the fence and snared the ball for the final out.
“I still can’t believe it,” Priest said.
Coates earned the win on the hill, going seven innings and giving up seven hits and fanning three.
Matt Massengill was 3-for-3 and Joe Strait had an RBI double for East Bladen.
