RED SPRINGS — A four-run explosion in the top of the second inning Tuesday propelled South Robeson past West Bladen in the second round of the Robeson County Slugfest, 6-2.

The loss sent the Knights home for the balance of the spring break after losing both tournament games.

The Mustangs opened the game by manufacturing a run in the first inning, but West Bladen bounced back with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning when C.J. Singletary led off with a single and went station to station on wild pitches before a single by Clay Allen scored Singletary. After an error put runners at the corners, Allen scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 lead.

But the West Bladen offense would sputter the rest of the way.

South Robeson roughed up Knights pitcher Kevin Rice for four runs in the second and then added a run in the fifth to seal the win.

Singletary and John Waldrop were each 2-for-4 at the plate for West Bladen.

The Knights, now 8-9, will return to the diamond on Tuesday when they reopen Four County Conference play at Heidi Trask at 7 p.m

— GAME ONE: West Bladen surrendered three runs in the top of the second inning and couldn’t catch the host Red Devils on Monday, falling 4-2 in the opening round of the Robeson County Slugfest.

The No. 4 seed Knights scored a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1, but No. 5 Red Springs got the run back in the sixth inning.

West Bladen put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but it fell short after only a run scored.

Trevor Lesane was 2-for-4 with two doubles and Travis Bowen was 2-for-3 for the Knights.
