DUBLIN — Oren Taylor had three favorite pastimes as an adult: business, family and Dublin Motor Speedway. It’s because of the latter that the dirt track will once again host the annual Oren Taylor Memorial Race on Saturday.
Taylor, who was the son of Miller and Lucille Taylor, spend years building and developing the race track. He then enjoyed seeing the popularity of the racing grow.
“On Saturday, Richard bailey (who helps run the track and is Taylor’s nephew) will join the Taylor family and track staff to honor Oren Taylor by putting on the best dirt-track stock car race you will find anywhere,” said Denise Taylor Bridgers. “The race track runs several classes each week on Saturday nights and the featured event this night will be the Limited Late Model.”
Bridgers said the usual winner’s purse for the featured race is $1,000 — but the Taylor family, which also operates Lu Mil Vineyard, Taylor Manufacturing and D’vine Foods, is adding another $1,000 to make the featured race winner’s purse a total of $2,000.
She added that the public is being asked to contribute to the winner’s purse, saying that any amount of $5 or more will earn the individual or group recognition during the evening.
“The larger the purse, the more race car that will be attracted to this event,” Bridgers said. “And the more cars, the more excitement and anticipation — and a larger crowd will attend.”
Prior to the night’s racing, Taylor employees will be at the VIP tent for a pig-pickin’ and fellowship.
“Dublin Motor Speedway is a family venue and provides clean fun and entertainment to its spectators and participants,” Bridgers said. “We hope you will be a part of this exciting event.”
