Three students from West Bladen High School — Madison McLamb, Megan Bennet and Codi Pait — competed this year in the first-time event of Sports Nutrition at the N.C. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America state conference. For the event, participants had to plan and develop an individualized nutritional plan to meet the needs of a competitive student athlete in a specific sport. In advance, participants prepared a sample nutrition and hydration plan based upon nutritional and energy needs of the student athlete. The participants also prepared a file folder, delivered an oral presentation, and demonstrateda method to be used by the athlete to assist with nutrition management. The students received a Silver Medal at the state conference and have qualified to compete at the National FCCLA conference in Texas in July. Their advisors are Debra Kinlaw and Gail Marsh.
