Although the official playoff brackets won’t be set until later on Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, the three Bladen County teams who have qualified have a fairly good idea who and where they will be playing this week.
The regular season came to a close on Friday and resulted in the West Bladen and East Bladen softball teams earning a berth in the Class 2-A playoffs, along with the West Bladen baseball team.
East Bladen’s baseball did not qualify, finishing the season at 5-16.
The potential opening-round playoff scenarios are as follows:
— West Bladen softball: Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights finished the regular season with a 19-4 record and the No. 1 Class 2-A seed out of the Four County Conference.
West Bladen will open the playoffs with a home game on Wednesday, presumably against the Lady Bulldogs of Dixon out of the East Central Conference. The Lady Bulldogs are 12-10 and the conference’s No. 3 seed.
— East Bladen softball: Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles completed the regular season with a 9-7 mark and earned the Four County Conference’s No. 2 Class 2-A seed.
East Bladen is expected to open the playoffs Wednesday on the road to meet the Lady Red Devils of Graham, who finished 10-8 overall as the No. 2 seed out of the Mid-State Conference.
It is East Bladen’s first playoff appearance in a number of years.
— West Bladen baseball: Kim Cain’s Knights finished the regular season at 11-10 and took the No. 2 Class 2-A seed out of the Four County Conference.
West Bladen is expected to open the playoffs Tuesday with a home game against the Reidsville Rams out of the Mid-State Conference. The Rams were involved in a conference tournament late last week, and the results have not been posted — but in the off chance Reidsville won its tournament, it would send the Knights on the road.
