DUBLIN — Despite published reports that Matt Hill, the jayvee basketball coach at West Bladen High, has been introduced as the boys head basketball coach at St. Pauls, his hiring has not yet been approved by the Robeson County Board of Education.

Although considered a formality, Hill cannot begin work for the St. Pauls basketball program until that approval is done.

Hill’s hiring was on the school board’s agenda this week, but another issue caused it to be pushed aside until the next meeting of the board.

The Bulldogs have been searching for a coach since finishing 3-19 under Travis Lemanski last season, including 2-12 in the Three Rivers Conference.

During Lemanski’s four-year span at St. Pauls, the Bulldogs were 32-63 overall and 15-29 in conference. His best season came in 2012-13 when St. Pauls was 16-9 overall and 8-2 in conference.

Hill is a 2006 graduate of West Bladen High and 2010 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Since then, he has been a coach for jayvee football, basketball and baseball — as well as an assistant for varsity basketball football and golf.
