CERRO GORDO — West Bladen No. 2 fell to the homestanding Vikings of West Columbus, 8-3, in Dixie Pre-Majors action on Thursday.
The Knights took a quick lead in the top of the first behind an RBI single from Brandon Carson. But West Columbus knotted the game in the bottom of the inning, then erupted for four runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead the Vikings never relinquished.
Two more runs scampered home in the fourth for West Columbus before West Bladen scored twice in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Knights loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly by Seth Britt brought home a run and an RBI single by Michael Pastore scored the next run.
West Columbus scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring.
Jeremy Hunt was 3-for-3 for West Bladen, while Pastore was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carson and Britt also had RBIs.
— In Dublin on Thursday, West Bladen No. 1 committed six errors and helped visiting South Brunswick to an 11-1 win.
The Knights got a triple from Colby McLean in the fourth inning, and a Cougars throwing error allowed McLean to scamper home with West Bladen’s lone run.
South Brunswick, meanwhile, plated three runs in the second, four more in the third and completed the game on the 10-run rule by scoring four runs in the fifth inning.
Scott Bowen started on the hill for the Knights, working three innings and absorbing the loss. Caleb Sholar pitched the final two innings for West Bladen.
