I keep hearing on television about different chemicals that will kill mosquitoes. I would like people to know that there is a way to kill mosquitoes without using pesticides.

I used to spend some time under my barn shelter. Under the barn roof, we collected rainwater for the garden in barrels. When we would have barbecues the mosquitoes would be a nuisance (and) I found out that to kill the mosquitoes all I had to do was put a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil in the rainwater barrels.

The cooking oil made a skim over the top of the water and the skim was a death trap for mosquitoes — along with lots of other flying insects.
