We are on the cusp of another high school football season, and this one will be the last — at least for a while — that our Bladen County teams will be pitted against teams to our north in Sampson County.
Realignment takes place in time for the 2017 season, and we will then be sent west once again to face teams from Robeson County to renew old rivalries — like those with St. Pauls and Fairmont.
But for one more season, we will have the opportunity to play against some top-notch competition like Clinton, Wallace-Rose Hill and Midway. Not to take anything away from Robeson teams, but these Sampson teams have been at or near the top of the state title chases for the past number of years, and they are always a good measuring stick for us here in Bladen.
Hopefully we can see our Eagles and Knights face some of these teams in non-conference games starting next season.
So as the upcoming season progresses, I hope fans will support their respective schools and turn out to cheer, have a hot dog and fellowship with other fans.
Good luck to both East Bladen and West Bladen.
