From the Bladen Journal’s Facebook page …

I am in search of my Brown family from Carvers Creek/Council.

My great-grandfather (James Andrews/James A. Brown) was a slave in Bladen County (Carver’s Creek/Council). His father was Esau Brown and his mother was Chloe Flowers. James was a private in the Co. D. 37th Regiment U.S. Colored Infantry Division from 1865 to1867.

James had nine children — (Amanda DOB 9/8/1868, Emma L. DOB 6/8/1870, Silva DOB 2/12/1875, Nathan DOB 8/8/1877, Bettie DOB 9/15/1879, Mary F. and Daniel James DOB 5/2/1882, Harry and Gastan DOB 1/1891).

James left Bladen County following the turpentine industry to Georgia then to Florida.

Anyone with information, please contact me via Facebook.
