The East Bladen Varsity Football Team advances to the second round of the State 2A Football Playoffs. The team travels to Burlington to take on the Cummings Cavaliers. The East Bladen Eagles have an almost impeccable record with only one loss in the season against South Columbus.

Ben Baxley, son of Earl and Sarah Baxley of Bladenboro, has been chosen as the first recipient of Appalachian State University Local Government Alumni Scholarship named in memory of Lacy West, Jr.

A restored home called "White Hall" located on NC Highway 87 14 miles East of Elizabethtown is restored and approved for use as a boarding home for aged men and women. The home can accommodate 14 people and is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hobson Sanderlin of Carvers Creek.
