Several dozen firefighters respond to a fire at the Houston's Peanut Processors salting plant in Dublin. The fire was said to be started by a roasting machine, causing a small explosion. Most of the damage is to the ceiling, requiring thousands of dollars worth of reparations. The plant is to be up and running in a few weeks.

Five years earlier in Dublin: A black bear cub is found in an oak tree in the back yard of Ashley Meggs behind the storage building of the peanut plant. The cub came down on his own when all the spectators had gone.

In honor of their 50th anniversary, Reverends C. R. Hinton, E. H. Canady, and A. D. Frazier are all participating in the Golden Jubilee celebration held at the local Baptist church (I guess there was only one at the time... nowadays you can't go half a block without another Baptist church, not that that's a bad thing. I think it's great.).
