ELIZABETHTOWN — Businessmen, local government leaders and farmers will have a chance to meet and share ideas at the annual Farm-City Week banquet on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The banquet will take place at the Powell-Melvin Building in Elizabethtown, according to Bladen County Extension Director Dalton Dockery.
The keynote speaker will be Dorothy McKoy, who has served as past president of the N.C. Extension and Community Association. Also, greetings will be rendered by N.C. Representative William Brisson.
“The primary function of the banquet is to show agriculture’s impact on communities across the country,” said Dockery. “Brings county and city together for the common good.”
Farm-City Week was begun in 1955 to create a better understanding between farmers and nonfarmers and urban people, said Dockery.
“Farm-City is a culmination of many events statewide promoting a partnership between agriculture and business,” he added. “Each county does something to promote this week.”
Dockery estimated between 100 to 125 people attend the banquet in Bladen County each year.
