ELIZABETHTOWN — Candidate filings for the Nov. 3 municipal elections in Bladen County opened Monday, and first in line was the Elizabethtown foursome of Ricky Leinwand, Charles DeVane, Herman Lewis and Rufus Floyd.

DeVane, Lewis and Lloyd are incumbents running for re-election to their four-year town council seats.

Leinwand, who was appointed last year to fill Scott Ussery’s unexpired term on the town council, will be seeking the final two years of the term.

In Bladenboro, Mayor Livingston Lewis filed to run for re-election to his four-year seat. In the town commissioner race, incumbent Steve Bryan filed to run for his four-year Ward 2 seat.

In Tar Heel, Betty Jo Merritt will make a run for one of the three two-year board of commissioner seats.

In White Lake, Barbara Williams has filed to run for one of the three, four-year town commissioner seats.

Filings continue through July 17.

An omission

In last Friday’s story about election filings getting started, the town of Dublin was inadvertently left off the list.

Mayor Horace Wyatt’s two-year seat is up for grabs, as is town councilman Jeffery Smith’s four-year seat.
