ROSE HILL — In a game that hardly seemed in question from the start, the Lady Eagles got balanced scoring and took a 65-26 non-conference win on the road against Union High on Tuesday.

The win improved East Bladen to 8-0.

The Lady Eagles opened a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, and then extended it to 34-13 by the time intermission arrived.

The East Bladen defense continued to play tough through the second half, and the lead ballooned to 46-22 after three quarters of play.

But it was the fourth quarter, with all the Lady Eagles seeing action, that East Bladen easily sealed the 39-point victory by outscoring the Lady Spartans 19-4.

Lacey Suggs led East Bladen with 12 points, but was closely followed by Alexus Smith with 11 points. The trio of Iesha Swindell, Melissa Macon and Abbey Norris each scored eight for the Lady Eagles. Swindell also added seven of the team’s 25 steals.

A total of 11 Lady Eagles scored in the game.

— Asha Graham all but put the Lady Eagles on her back Monday and led East Bladen High to a 51-34 win over visiting Wallace-Rose Hill High to improve to 7-0.

East Bladen opened the game with a 7-0 spurt before the Lady Bulldogs finished the first quarter with a 6-3 run to pull within 9-6.

With the game tightened to 14-13 in the second half, East Bladen used a three-pointer by Graham to spark an 8-0 run and went on to finish the half with a 24-16.

Wallace-Rose Hill made some key adjustments during intermission and came out with an 8-3 run that cut the Lady Eagles’ lead to 27-24. But Graham popped in another three-pointer that sparked a 7-0 East Bladen spurt for a 34-26 lead. When the third quarter ended, East Bladen was up, 34-29.

The Lady Eagles opened the final 8 minutes with an 11-1 run that included Graham’s fourth three-pointer and carried East Bladen to a 45-30 lead that all but put the game away.

“It was an ugly win for us but at least we can use it as a learning experience,” East Bladen coach Patty Evers said. “Lacey (Suggs) was in foul trouble all night, which hurts us with our chemistry. Asha stepped up in a big way and knocked down a lot of shots that kept us in the game.

“The key to this win was 22-for-28 from the free throw line,” she added. “Lacey was 9-for-11 and Asha was 11-for-12.”

Graham led the Lady Eagles with a career-high 29 points. She added four steals and six boards.
