“We catch drug dealers everyday — some just don’t know they’re caught yet.”

Bladen County Sheriff’s Department

The last couple of weeks have been good ones for the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department — and county residents, as well.

During that time, we have been pleased to report that sheriff’s deputies have nabbed 10 suspected drug users, manufacturers and dealers in five separate incidents.

The biggest arrests came out of the White Oak community, right there on Burney Road. The results of one of those arrests, which took place on Thursday, can be seen in a video by Sgt. Scott Pait of the Narcotics Division on our Web site (www.bladenjournal.com) as well as read about it on Page 1A today.

With these arrests, sheriff’s deputies not only removed these 10 individuals from the streets, but they also took a tremendous amount of opium, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, illegal prescription drugs, firearms and more off our streets.

During Thursday’s incident in White Oak, deputies also uncovered cock-fighting paraphernalia — including steroids, vitamins and homemade weapons that are strapped to the fighting rooster’s leg.

We can do nothing but applaud our county sheriff’s department for the success it has had recently in removing these characters from freedom.

The fight against drugs, as it is with so many other areas law enforcement must deal with everyday, is a difficult one. Nearly every arrest made is the result of hard work, time-consuming investigation and even a lucky break or two. It also helps that most of the culprits tend not to be the brightest bulb in the house.

Once again, we send our kudos to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department for their fine work.
