ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen Journal’s Empty Stocking Fund continues to inch its way up toward the overall goal of $7,500 this holiday season after two checks were delivered.
Randy W. Garner of Tar Heel sent a check for $100 to the Empty Stocking Fund in memory of Ricky Carroll. Also, Cephus J. Beatty of Dublin sent a check for $25 to the Empty Stocking Fund. Each of their names will be added to the drawing for two tickets to a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. Those donations raise the amount collected so far to $2,262. Collections for the Empty Stocking Fund will continue through Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.
Anyone who donates $25 or more to the Empty Stocking Fund between now and Nov. 24 at noon will be eligible for the drawing, which will take place immediately after the deadline.
The Bladen Journal will again work with the Bladen County Department of Social Services on the effort. Applications for assistance through the Empty Stocking Fund can be obtained weekdays at the DSS offices from Monday, Nov. 9, through Wednesday, Nov. 25, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. For information, call 862-6800.
