KELLY — A 26-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder after law enforcement say she shot a Kelly man over money he reportedly owed her.

According to Bladen County Chief Deputy Phillip Little, Belinda Ann Gillespie, 26, of 295 Keith Road, Currie, approached Michael Christopher Peterson, 49, of 1333 Lightwood Knot Road, Kelly, at 1129 Lightwood Knot Road, Kelly, demanding money he owed her.

The two got into a disagreement and, according to Little, Gillespie retrieved a handgun from her vehicle. At some point during the disagreement, Gillespie pulled the weapon and fired a single shot, killing Peterson.

Upon officers’ arrival at the scene, the body of Petterson was found in the yard. Emergency medical personnel determined the victim died as a result of a single gun shot.

Both the victim and accused are no strangers to the law. Gillespie’s record goes back as far as 2003. Peterson has also been arrested on various crimes.

Gillespie was placed in the Bladen County Jail without bond.

The case remains open pending further investigating by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department.

After reading this article, I am amazed at how quickly this lady was arrested and thrown in jail for killing a man, but Caleb Stoker has not even spent a minute behind bars for shooting and killing Ricky Carroll. How is that this lady was locked up with INVESTIGATION STILL PENDING, but Mr. Stoker walks the streets without anything being done with everyone saying the samething INVESTIGATION STILL PENDING. I honestly wonder what is so different about these two individuals. I always thought that the laws applied to everyone. I guess in this cases it depends on who you are and the situation as to how fast the wheels of justice begin to turn. I think we need to relook at our justice system, and not be a respector of persons when crimes are committed. If this lady was locked up then Caleb should be locked up. If Caleb is still walking free, then this lady should be walking free. I know I read somewhere that you are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY so answer me this everyone WHY ARE THE SAME RULES NOT BE APPLIED TO BOTH CASES?
