WHITE LAKE — The town of White Lake has opened a recycling site in wake of the ban on plastics which took effect Thursday, Oct. 1. The recycling site is located near the town’s public works department. State Environmental officials encourage North Carolina residents to do their part to keep banned items out of landfills. Effective Oct. 1 disposal of motor oil filters, wooden pallets and plastic bottles are banned from the landfill. North Carolina is home to a wide range of companies that collect, process and recycle many banned materials back into a wide range of useful products.
The following items should be recycled through the town of White Lake’s recycling program: clear and colored glass, aluminum/steel beverage cans, plastic bottles/jugs (all bottles/jugs marked with a 1 - 7 recycling emblem), newspapers, corrugated cardboard, magazines, junk mail, catalogs, computer paper, notebook paper, phone books, shoeboxes, gift boxes, drink cartons, dry food boxes, and cereal boxes without the wax paper or foil liners.
The Bladen County Solid Waste Transfer Station (telephone 910-645-4279) will accept some items prohibited by the town’s recycling programs such as used motor oil, batteries, and oyster shells, scrap metal and white goods.
The town of White Lake requests all citizens to help the environment and lower sanitation costs by recycling as many items as possible and properly disposing of items banned from the landfill. The recycling site is located near the town’s public works department.
Extra recycling items that will not fit into the recycling container may be placed in paper bags or cardboard boxes and set beside the recycling container. To get additional recycling information contact Tim Frush, Public Works Director at 862-4800.
