The Saturday forecast will be for ghosts ghouls and spooky happenings. Halloween is on the calendar and that means motorists should take extra precautions Saturday evening and be on the lookout for young children an their escorts dressed in their scariest best.

The Web site entitled Halloween Safety Guide offers safety tips for costumes; parties; trick-or-treating and other safety ideas.

• Help your child pick out or make a costume that will be safe. Make it fire proof, the eye holes should be large enough for good peripheral vision.

• If you set jack-o-lanterns on your porch with candles in them, make sure that they are far enough out of the way so that kids costumes won't accidentally be set on fire.

• Treating your kids to a spooky Halloween dinner will make them less likely to eat the candy they collect before you have a chance to check it for them.

Several area towns have announced times for trick-or-treating activities and curfews to take place.

• For White Lake, trick-or-treating activites can take place from 5 to 9 p.m. and curfew will be in place for children between the ages of 13 and adult after 11 p.m. until 6 a.m.

• Bladenboro trick-or-treating activities will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A curfew will be in effect for all youths between the age of 13 to adult begining at 10:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. A curfew for children under the age of 13 will be in effect beginning at 9:30 p.m. until 6 a.m.

• The town of Elizabethtown will allow trikc-or-treating activites between the hours of 5 to 9 p.m. A curfew will be in effect for children between the ages of 13 and adult beginning at 11 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Alternative events planned

A Halloween alternative concert will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Elizabethtown Middle School gym. The groups scheduled to perform are Newsong, Chynna and Vaughn, and Bluetree. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and there will be a pre-concert session at 5:45 p.m. featuring local performers and Newsong will take the stage at about 6 p.m.

There are no tickets for sale in advance, but there are about 1,800 seats available and they are on a first come, first served basis, said Bruce Cannon in an earlier interview.

The organizers are expecting a full house for the concert. The groups are performers on the national scene.

Also, the Dublin First Baptist Church located at 7275 Albert Street, Dublin will have its “Fall Festival” from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

There will be bounce houses, hot dogs, slide games, “trunk-or-treat,” cotton candy, and shaved ice to name a few things. For more information, call 862-2277. Everyone is invited to attend and bring the whole family.

On Nov. 2, Dr. Tracie L. Vestal’s office will hold a candy buy back program from 2 until 5 p.m. They will be offering $2 per pound up to a maximum of $10 per child.
