ELIZABETHTOWN — Police Chief Bobby Kinlaw said a shooting took place Thursday night off Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown.
Tammy Derice McDonald, 46, of 307 Gill Street, Elizabethtown, was in the MLK Park at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, when a man called her over to where he was at, and a second man walked up and shot her in the arm.
The investigation led to the arrest of Montrodell Ferrell Council, 21, of 8131 Hwy. 53 West, White Oak, Council has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Council has been placed in the Bladen County Jail with a secure bond of $500,000. He was arrested within seven hours after the shooting.
McDonald was treated and released from Bladen County Hospital the same night of the shooting.
According to Kinlaw, the next morning McDonald observed the man that had called her over to where he was in the park the night before, at the barber shop on Martin Luther King Drive and reported it to Elizabethtown Police.
The officers arrived at the barber shop, searched and found a handgun hidden in the restroom of the barber shop and arrested Curtis Sanders Cromartie, 22, of 220 Fletcher Johnson Road, White Oak.
Cromartie has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy. Cromartie is in the Bladen County Jail under a $500,000 bond, plus $10,000 more for his charge of felony conspiracy.
According to Kinlaw, once Cromartie was charged, Council was charged with felony conspiracy and had an additional $10,000 bond added to his $500,000.
Man assaulted with a box cutter in Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN — According to Elizabethtown Police Chief Bobby Kinlaw, officers were called to 1205 Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown at 8:46 p.m. Friday, October 23, with reports of a woman in the yard waving a box cutter.
Arrested was Shimere Nichole White, 27, of 1205 MLK Drive, who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, White is in the Bladen County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
The report said Ricky Lee Williams, 32, of the same address was cut in the chest and stomach area. He was transferred to Bladen County Hospital by EMS, where he was treated and released from Bladen County Hospital shortly after the assault.
