AMMON — Though it is usually a quiet place, with a few locals who greet each other by name and occasional visitors passing through, the little town of Ammon will be painted blue on Saturday for the annual Ammon Blueberry Festival.
In its 14th year, the event draws a crowd from throughout the area each June to share in the small-town fun and entertainment.
The morning will begin with a pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., to get the crowd ready for the tractors, floats and special guests who will line the streets in the parade at 10 a.m.
The day will officially kick off after the conclusion of the parade with opening ceremonies on the center stage. Master of ceremonies will be Howard Faircloth, with the flag presentation by the Elizabethtown Fire Department and the National Anthem performed by Brooke Butcher.
The blueberry auction will be conducted, and various talents will be shown off with live entertainment going on until 3 p.m.
This year’s entertainment lineup will include All for Him of Delco; both the praise band and the choir from Windsor United Methodist Church in Ammon; The Gaddis Girls; Cross Talk from Columbus County; and Doug Strickland of White Oak.
Games, rides, crafts, food and fun will fill the day, along with the antique and classic car/truck cruise-in and show. And, of course, blueberries will be for sale as well.
Sponsored by the Ammon Ruritan Club, the event is free and open to the public. Proceeds will help to support the Ammon Volunteer Fire Department.
The festival is held at the intersection of N.C. 242 and Old Fayetteville Road in Ammon.
