Bladen County School Board member Wilbur Smith chats with N.C. Senator Tony Rand before the Politican Appreciation Day dinner begins on Saturday.
DUBLIN — The third annual Politician’s Appreciation Dinner was held at Lu Mil Vineyard in Dublin Saturday. A crowd of about 125 to 150 people turned out for the event.
Sammy Russ, one of the organizers, said the first appreciation dinner was held in Clarkton under a tent and the second dinner was held at the National Guard Armory in Elizabethtown last year.
“It’s been a good turn out and we’ve gotten a lot of response to it and a lot of sponsorship. It’s really a good thing for the people to get out and meet who represents them, if you’re new to the area and don’t know who your representatives are, you can come out and meet them,” said McCrae Dowless, one of the organizers.
The purpose of the annual event is to allow folks from the community to meet their representatives and talk to them about problems they may be having with government agencies or to simply say thank you, said Dowless.
Politicians and their staffers mingled with one another and spoke with citizens.
Alice and Jerry Lesane along with Dorothy Lesane and Lizzie Daniel sat at a table listening to their representatives speak and were greeted by N.C. House member William Brisson among others.
Dowless said the next Politician Appreciation Day is tentatively planned for March 2010, but no firm date has been set yet.
