Crash kills one in Clarkton
CLARKTON — A single vehicle crash on N.C. 211 Saturday night resulted in a fatality near Clarkton. Woodrow Baldwin, 59, of Farmers Union Road, was killed when his 2001 GMC Denali ran off the road, struck several trees, overturned and caught fire, according to reports. The sounds and smells of hogs wafted through downtown Elizabethtown late Tuesday morning when the transfer truck they were riding in broke down at the corner of West Broad Street and U.S. 701. The truck’s drive train broke just as it reached the top of the U.S. 701 hill near the light and created a diversion for traffic heading south for about 30 minutes.
