Devane’s four goals leads Lady Eagles; Pait’s home run leads West Bladen

ELIZABETHTOWN – Three matches, three different offensive leaders.

The Lady Eagles got four goals from Hannah Devane on Monday to lead East Bladen past visiting West Columbus in the non-conference match, 5-0.

In their opening match, the Lady Eagles got a hat trick from Justyna Gargala; and in their next match, Ashley Hardin and Sarah Johnson each tallied two goals.

On Monday, Devane ripped home a trio of goals in the first half to secure her hat trick and all but put the game on ice for East Bladen. She scored twice off assists from Hardin and the third goal came off a feed from Anna Grace Long.

Devane tallied her fourth goal of the match late in the second half off an assist from Cybil Campbell and, moments later, Gargala scored the Lady Eagles’ final goal on a rebound.

Netminder Ting Lin turned away three shots on goal by West Columbus to help East Bladen move to 3-0.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Red Springs on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. non-conference match.




— In Dublin on Monday, the Lady Knights hammered out 10 hits — including a three-run home run by Laikyn Pait — and handed visiting South Brunswick a 12-0 mercy rule, non-conference loss.

West Bladen improved to 2-1 with the win.

The Lady Knights started quickly, plating three runs in the first inning when Kassidy Anderson reached on an infield hit, Alanna Ludlum walked and Pait crushed her home run over the left-center fence.

West Bladen added six runs in the second inning behind a two-run single by Carley Dawson, an RBI triple by Sophia Singletary and an RBI single by Conner Brisson for a 9-0 advantage.

The Lady Knights tacked on three runs in the third inning when walks to Pait and Ludlum were followed by and RBI single from Dawson and Pait came home on an error. Singletary smacked a fielder’s choice RBI to score Dawson moments later.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the game ended in the fifth.

Singletary earned the win in the circle, going three innings and giving up two hits. She fanned two hitters. Madison Collins finished up for West Bladen, going two innings and giving up two walks and no hits.

At the plate, the trio of Brisson, Dawson and Kathryn Schultz all went 2-for-3; Pait, Anderson and Ludlum were each 1-for-1.

The Lady Knights will open Four County Conference play on Friday when they host Union at 6 p.m.
