DUBLIN — Caleb Sholar was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI to lead a 13-hit West Bladen attack on Friday as the Knights opened Four County Conference play with a 13-1 win over visiting Union.
West Bladen scored four times in the bottom of the first when Weston Pidgeon led off with a single, stole second and scored on an error. Trent West smoked an RBI single and Scott Bowen followed with a single ahead of Sholar’s two-run single.
In the second inning, Pidgeon crushed a triple to left-center, T.J. Guyton got hit by a pitch and Jarrett Williams lofted a sacrifice fly to score Pidgeon. Guyton scored on an error, Bowen walked and Sholar ripped an RBI single. Moments later, Sholar came home on a wild pitch for an 8-0 lead.
The Knights plated five more runs in the third inning behind a Union error, an RBI triple by Trent West, an RBI single from Bowen, and RBI singles from Sholar and Logan West.
The Spartans scored their lone run in the fifth inning.
Trent West earned the win on the hill for West Bladen, going three innings and giving up just one hit, a walk and striking out three. He also hit three batters. Trey Storms worked 1.1 innings and gave up the run on two hits, while Bowen finished up with one strikeout.
In addition to Sholar’s perfect night, Pidgeon was 3-for-4 with a triple; Trent West was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI; and Bowen was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
