Midway knocks off East Bladen, 14-2

ELIZABETHTOWN — Visiting Midway used several East Bladen errors to open an 13-0 lead after three innings and went on to hand the Eagles a 14-2 loss in the Four County Conference opener.

The Raiders plated two runs in the first inning, then broke the game open with five runs in the second inning and six more in the third for the 13-0 advantage.

East Bladen avoided the shutout when Sincere Smith singled in the bottom of the third, went to third on an error and scored on Ty Watkins’ RBI single.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Midway tacked on a run in the fifth for a 14-1 lead. But the Eagles answered with a run in the home half when Smith reached on an error, went to third on groundout and scored on a fielder’s choice.

Watkins took the loss on the hill, going three innings. Xavier Watkins worked the final two innings.

At the plate, Watkins was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Wooten was also 2-for-3.
