ELIZABETHTOWN –The Lady Eagles officially earned a Three Rivers Conference victory on the tennis courts Thursday, narrowly escaping a complete washout when showers began to fall.

East Bladen took five of the six singles matched against visiting South Robeson to get the 5-0 win — four of those matches were whitewashes. The remaining trio of doubles matches were not played, thanks to Mother Nature.

earning the singles wins for the Lady Eagles were: Jayme LeeAnn Frady at No. 1, 8-0; Ting Lin at No. 2, 8-0; Anna Kate White at No. 3, 8-0; Sammi Jiang at No. 5, 8-1; and Carlie West at No. 6, 8-0.

Lily Lin’s singles match at No. 4 was not completed because of the weather.

East Bladen, now 1-1 overall and in the conference, will next play at conference foe Whiteville on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Its match at West Bladen on Monday was postponed to Oct. 4.

— The Lady Knights of West Bladen saw its Thursday match at South Columbus washed pout by weather. No makeup date has been set.

West Bladen’s home match with cross-county conference foe East Bladen set for Monday was pushed back to Oct. 4.

The Lady Knights will be in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they host Fairmont for a conference match.

In Southport on Thursday, the Lady Knights were swept for the second straight time in this early season by South Brunswick in a non-conference matchup by the scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-14.

West Bladen, now 0-2, will be back in action again on Tuesday when it hosts Fairmont in a Three Rivers Conference match at 4:30 p.m.
