Lady Knights win on the tennis court

DUBLIN — West Bladen took five of the six singles matches Tuesday, including a thriller at No. 6 from a last-minute substitute, and the Lady Knights earned a 6-3 Three Rivers Conference win over visiting East Columbus.

The Lady Knights improved to 4-0 overall and in the conference.

In singles, No. 1 Conner Brisson won 6-2 and 6-2; No. 3 Autumn Brisson won 4-6, 7-6 (11-9 tie-breaker); No. 4 Alyssa Smith won 4-6, 6-4 (10-4 tie-breaker); and No. 5 Mireya Sandoval won 6-0 and 6-1. But the highlight for West Bladen may have been Haleigh Dunn stepping in at No. 6 and taking a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

“Savannah Lee, our No. 3, was out sick and Haleigh Dunn stepped up from the No. 7 seed to get the win at No. 6 …” said West Bladen coach Mary White. “Alyssa and Autumn rallied back from first-set losses to close out the match with tiebreakers (and) Autumn Brisson had a 2.5-hour singles match.”

In doubles, the No. 3 duo of Smith and Sandoval earned a 6-3 and 6-2 win for the Lady Knights.
