DUBLIN — The Lady Knights will be sending a doubles team to the state regionals next week after the No. 1 tandem of Conner Brisson and Savannah Lee battled for a 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2 win over a Whiteville duo on Thursday in the Three Rivers Conference championship.
“They played phenomenal tennis yesterday …” West Bladen coach Mary White said. “This match was particularly exciting as both teams had split wins throughout the season. The match was tight throughout the first two sets and the Lady Knights came through in the clutch of the third and deciding set.
“Conner Brisson took the match away from the Wolfpack with excellent volleys at the net while Savannah Lee had many winners down the alleys,” she added. “I am proud of their determination and the grit they showed throughout both the season and the tournament. It was a great win and we should find out early next week who their competition will be at the regional tournament.”
First the Lady Knights will have to settle the regular-season title with South Columbus. The two teams will play Saturday morning in Tabor City, with the winner earning the No. 1 seed out of the Three Rivers Conference for the state playoffs.
West Bladen nipped the lady Stallions in their previous meeting, 5-4. That match was delayed after the singles matches by rain with South Columbus up 4-2, but the Lady Knights swept the three doubles matches earlier this week.
