EAST ARCADIA – The Bulldogs from Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy made their “home” opener a successful one, using a 17-5 second-quarter run that helped lead to a 67-30 drubbing of visiting Riverside Christian of Fayetteville.

The win improved the Bulldogs to 2-0 on the season. The game was played at East Arcadia School.

Paul R. Brown opened a 15-12 lead after the first quarter, led by the six points from Zarian Brown and five from T.J. Smith that included a three-pointer.

“We were playing a zone defense, so we switched to a man defense and it showed right away,” said Bulldogs coach Ken Cross.

The second-quarter blitz by the Bulldogs was led by the nine points from Marvin Lacewell and extended the lead to 32-17 at the intermission.

Brown started what became a big second half with three buckets in the third quarter, helping the Bulldogs to outscore the Royals by an 11-9 margin for a 43-26 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Brown added 10 points and Marquese Robinson contributed six points in a 24-4 period to help seal the win for Paul R. Brown.

“It’s good to start the season 2-0 and everyone got to play,” Cross said. “But we have to work hard on our shots to get better.”

The Bulldogs were led by Brown’s double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Lacewell with 14 points. Smith added nine points in the win and Gary Mason had eight points.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Alpha Academy on Dec. 19 at East Arcadia School.
