ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles’ offense gave the home crowd plenty to cheer for, but it was the defense that paved the way to a 60-20 Three Rivers Conference win over visiting Fairmont on Friday.

East Bladen is now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

The Lady Golden Hurricanes found themselves in a deep hole quickly, as the Lady Eagles raced out to a 26-4 advantage in the first quarter. That momentum never wavered trough the second quarter, as East Bladen blistered the nets for another 24 points and carried a huge 50-9 lead into halftime.

The reward — for both teams — was a running clock trough the second half of the game.

Fairmont, playing against East Bladen coach Patty Evers’ numerous substitutions, managed to win the third quarter by a 9-8 margin. Neither team could find any scoring in the fourth frame, but the 2-2 effort easily sealed the 40-point win for the Lady Eagles.

“The chemistry is getting better and we played the best we have all year,” Evers said. “Our post held their best player (Kiara Page) to five points … Shardajah (Brown), Ashley (Hardin) and Lorna (Mendell) did an outstanding job.”

Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson had her second straight big game, canning 21 points, while Patience Ward scored 15 points and had four assists and three steals. Erica McKoy contributed nine points, six rebounds and four steals; Ashley Hardin scored six points and had six boards and tree assists; Brown had six rebounds; Mendell rejected four Fairmont shots and pulled down five rebounds.

East Bladen will host St. Pauls in a conference game on Monday at 6 p.m.
