ROSE HILL — The lady Knights broke open a close game with a second-quarter surge and rode it to a 56-41 non-conference win over Union on Monday.

The win, West Bladen’s second of the season over the Lady Spartans, improved coach Brian McCleney’s squad to 2-6 overall.

The two teams battled to a 12-12 knot after the first quarter of play, with the Lady Knights getting nine of those points from Kasee Singletary.

West Bladen caught fire in the second stanza — led by three-pointers from Chasitty Lacey and Indiyah Williams — lighting up the scoreboard for 18 points while holding the home team to 10 and taking a 30-22 advantage into halftime.

Union was able to outscore the visitors by an 11-10 margin to cut slightly into the deficit, but the Lady Knights sealed the game with a 16-8 run through the fourth quarter.

“I feel our pace forced a lot of turnovers,” said McCleney. “Patience Parker played a very good game … she did a lot of things that will not show up on the stat sheet that were key to the win.

“I’m seeing improvement each day,” he added.

Singletary led the Lady Knights with 11 points, while Parker contributed nine points. Mikayla Winebarger and Lacey each added eight points.
