ELIZABETHTOWN — The visiting Bulldogs of St. Pauls rode a 22-7 surge through the second quarter to a 58-40 Three Rivers Conference win over East Bladen.
The loss kept the Eagles winless on the season at 0-7 overall, 0-6 in the conference.
The Bulldogs opened the game with an 8-1 run, but East Bladen answered with a 5-0 run that pulled the Eagles to within 8-6 going into the second quarter.
St. Pauls all but put the game away with the 22-7 explosion in the second stanza and carried a 30-13 advantage into halftime.
The two teams traded points through the third quarter, but the Bulldogs added to the lead with a 16-14 period and took a 46-27 lead into the final frame.
The back and forth continued over the last 8 minutes, and East Bladen managed to win the quarter by a slim 13-12 verdict — far from enough to avoid the 18-point loss.
Adonis Avery led the Eagles with 11 points, while Messiah Leach scored 10.
The Eagles will be off until Wednesday, Dec. 27, when they open the Woodmen Life Christmas Tournament at West Bladen High against Clinton at 2 p.m.
