ROWLAND – The Lady Eagles overcame a flu bug that knocked out leading scorer Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson on Wednesday, getting balanced scoring and a stiff defense en route to a 57-37 road win over South Robeson.

The win, East Bladen’s 15th in a row, improves the Lady Eagles to 19-1 overall and 14-1 in the conference.

East Bladen opened the game with a 19-7 run through the first quarter, then took the second quarter by a 12-6 margin to carry a 31-13 advantage into halftime.

The Lady Eagles kept their foot on the gas after the intermission, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 14-11 in the third quarter before sealing up the win despite South Rob taking the fourth frame by a 13-12 edge.

“Everyone contributed,” East Bladen coach Patty Evers said. “Shar, Erica, Patience and Ashley (Hardin) did a good job moving the ball on offense without Ja’Tyra.

“This team seems to overcome adversity somehow,” she added. “We moved much better on the defensive end of the floor.”

Patience Ward took scoring honors with 13 points and added seven rebounds and six steals; Shardajah Brown contributed 12 points and five rebounds; Erica McKoy dropped in 10 points along with eight steals, six rebounds and five assists; Lorna Mendell grabbed five rebounds.

East Bladen will go back on the road to Lake Waccamaw on Friday to face East Columbus in a conference tilt at 6 p.m.
