ELIZABETHTOWN — West Bladen traveled cross-county to take on Four County Conference foes East Bladen on Thursday in a soccer match that had bragging rights for one and the cellar of the conference for the other on the line.
The Knights and Eagles battled to a 1-1 knot by the end of the first half, but East Bladen’s experience and execution took over in the second half en route to four unanswered goals and a 5-1 win.
Seth Britt put West Bladen on the board first with a goal off a feed from Emerson Escobar for a 1-0 lead. The Eagles responded with a goal off the foot of Greyson Heustess, who took a pass from Alex Felder to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second half, the East Bladen defense kept the Knights away from the scoring zone, while the offense began to turn up the heat on West Bladen’s end of the field.
Caleb Hatchell scored for the Eagles off assists from Heustess and Kevin Nunoz to give East Bladen a 2-1 edge that would only grow. Moments later, Brooks McGill found the back of the Knights’ goal off an assist from Hatchell and Josue Guvera — then Hesutess scored his second goal of the match off a feed from Guvera for a 4-1 lead.
Guvera finished off the East Bladen scoring and the Knights’ hopes with a goal late in the second half, assisted by Felder.
The loss drops West Bladen to 4-10-1 overall and 1-7 in the conference. East Bladen improves to 5-9 overall, 2-6 in the conference.
