Lady Knights whip Pender in tennis, 8-1

BURGAW — The West Bladen varsity tennis team traveled to Burgaw on Thursday and handed host Pender County an 8-1 loss in a Four County Conference match.

The win equaled the Lady Knights’ record of 12 wins in a season and clinched second place in the conference with a 6-2 record.

In singles action, Alanna Ludlum took an 8-1 win at No. 1; Amber Long earned an 8-2 win at No. 2; Helen Lopez served up an 8-4 win at No. 3; Haley Dimery took an 8-5 victory at No. 5; and Conner Brisson was an 8-0 whitewash winner at No. 6.

The lone hiccup came at No. 4 singles, where Madison Singletary lost a hard-fought 8-6 decision.

In doubles action, West Bladen swept the three matches — Ludlum and Long teamed for an 8-0 shutout at No. 1; Lopez and Singletary earned an 8-6 win at No. 2; and the duo of Dimery and Brisson got an easy 8-1 win at No. 3.
